9.12.08 ... 9-1-1

Ever since September 11, 2001, the numbers 9-1-1 in combination mean so much more than just an emergency number. Something happens inside of me whenever I glance at a clock, especially a digital clock, and see that it's 9:11am or pm. Even though it's just a time, seeing those numbers in sequence is just unsettling. It's so hard to believe that it's been 7 years since that terrible tragedy that changed our nation ... but it has. It feels like it was just yesterday. I spent the 3rd, 4th, and 5th anniversary of September 11th in New York City. My friends and I actually sat under the 2 beaming lights that projected the Twin Towers into the sky. Being the city made me feel connected, proud, and warm. Yesterday went by with an acknowledgement here and there, but now it's become remembering our troops. September 11th has inspired many people to recognize the men and women who risk their lives everyday for our freedom and that really inspires me. So although I didn't spend the day in the city remembering and reliving that day, I did spend it surrounded by people who are really proud of their country. We all show it in different ways, but I think we all felt somewhat patriotic while remembering that terrible day that no one will ever forget.
